From Above: A Retrospective of Robert Cameron's Aerial Photography
March/April 2005

"The fog has been doing this for eons. But all of a sudden, here is a man-made pyramid sticking up through it. That's what the image said to me when I shot it. I've always been particularly fond of this shot."

The work of renowned aerial photographer Robert Cameron, digitized and enlarged to prints of up to six feet by 12 feet in size, will be seen for the first time in this format at the Presidio Officers' Club in the Presidio Officers' Club in an exhibition titled "From Above: A Robert Cameron Retrospective." The work respresents photos from his best-selling series of "Above" books.

The exhibit will feature 58 large photos of locations including San Francisco, New York, London, Paris, Las Vegas, Hawaii, great parks including the Presidio, Yosemite and Lake Tahoe, and more.

Cameron developed a special eye for capturing the spirit of a pace from "Above" while shooting downward from a helicopter. His series of books shows the world's great capitals and most beautiful natural areas from this areal perspective.

Now 93, Cameron developed his skill as an aerial photographer during World War II, when he shot military installations from helicopters for the War Department. He is a member of the Royal Photographic Society and the President's Council of the International Center of Photography. His work has been exhibited around the world.
