About Robert Cameron
Beloved founder, publisher and photographer of Cameron & Company, Robert W. Cameron, died November 10 at his home in San Francisco at age 98. As the images on this website attest, he was a master at his craft.
Robert Cameron's photographic career began in 1933 as a news photographer for the Des Moines Register. During World War II he worked for the War Department as a civilian photographer. After a stint in the New York City business world he migrated to San Francisco where he self-published his first ABOVE book in 1969. Since that time there have been 16 additional titles reaching a total of over three million copies in print.
In lieu of a memorial service, the family wishes to invite admirers of his life and work to visit his final show, “Environmental Journey: Robert Cameron’s Aerial Photography of our Pacific Rim” which is on display at the Metreon in San Francisco (see Exhibition page for more details).
